When working in French, there are many occasions in meetings or business discussions where you may need to give a presentation. To communicate your ideas clearly, it is important to master standard expressions for introductions, explanations, and conclusions.

In this lesson, I will introduce useful phrases for giving presentations in French.

Grammar and Expression Points

1. Opening a Presentation

A presentation always begins with a greeting and the announcement of the topic. “Bonjour à tous.” is the standard way to greet an entire audience: “Hello everyone.”

Then, clearly state today’s theme:

  • Aujourd’hui, je vais vous présenter …
    (Today, I will present …)

The verb présenter means “to introduce” or “to present,” and it is frequently used in business presentations. The near-future form “je vais …” emphasizes that you are “about to” present something.

2. Structuring the Flow of the Talk

To make your presentation easy to follow, divide it into stages. Useful connectors include:

  • Tout d’abord (First of all)
  • Ensuite (Next)
  • Enfin (Finally)

Example:

  • Tout d’abord, je voudrais expliquer les objectifs.
(First of all, I would like to explain the objectives.)

These expressions correspond to English first / next / finally and help your audience clearly follow the structure.

3. Referring to Data or Materials

When showing slides or handouts, the following phrases are very effective:

  • Voici … (Here is … / This is …)
  • Voilà … (There is … / Here you can see …)

Example:

  • Voici les résultats de notre enquête.
(Here are the results of our survey.)

Voici is often used when actively presenting material at hand, while voilà is more natural when directing the audience’s attention toward something.

4. Concluding a Presentation

Summarizing your key points at the end leaves a strong impression.

  • Pour conclure … (In conclusion …)
  • En résumé … (To summarize …)
  • Je pense que … (I think that …)

Pour conclure” signals that you are finishing. “Je pense que …” introduces your own view politely.

5. Engaging the Audience

A presentation is more effective when you involve the audience rather than speaking one-way.

Useful phrases include:

  • Comme vous pouvez le voir …
    (As you can see …)
  • Regardez ce graphique, s’il vous plaît.
(Please take a look at this chart.)
  • N’hésitez pas à poser vos questions à la fin.
(Feel free to ask your questions at the end.)

These expressions create a more interactive atmosphere.
